Product Description

In Taiwan, many of the tribes, such as the Tsou, have named themselves after the word for “real person” in their native language. Thus, artist Paicu Tiaki’ana emphasizes the “people” of her tribe and their unique features and costumes in her art. For example, this handmade, hand engraved and hand painted leather necklace set depicts a Tsou couple in ceremonial headdresses. Each pendant shows half of a face, and when placed side by side, they form one face with the mouth open in song.

The male pendant shows a headdress decorated with bear fur, feathers and shells. These ornaments could only be worn by a brave and righteous warrior and hunter or a man of high social status.

The female pendant shows the preference for bright colors among Tsou women.

Each leather pendant comes with beaded fringe and 20” adjustable leather strap. These necklaces are sold only in male-female sets, and may not be purchased individually.
