Product Description

Lover’s bags are traditionally only worn by members of the Amis tribe during important ceremonies such as the harvest festival. This unique-shaped bag comes with a long strap for wearing like a satchel, which made it easy to carry while dancing. During harvest festival celebrations, women would lightly tug on the strap of the lover’s bag worn by the man they have a special affection for, and place a betel nut inside. However, both men and women can carry this type of bag. The front and strap are hand-woven and feature traditional tribal motifs.

Artist lntroduction

Miku is a member of the Amis tribe, living in Taitung County’s Dulan Village in eastern Taiwan. Dulan is the location of the tribe’s sacred mountain, and this inspired her to take up the tradition of loom weaving five years ago, creating traditional items such as ceremonial sashes, shawls and bags, as well as more contemporary works such as handbags and cell phone covers. In addition to studying weaving methods, she also works to learn tribal motifs to incorporate them into her work and creates her own designs as well.
